Family Digest 66 – Qualified and Unemployed byLois Law
The South African Medical Association (SAMA), representing medical doctors in both the public and private sectors, has sent an open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa urging him to address a growing unemployment crisis for qualified professionals in the industry. There are at least 1 800 junior doctors nationwide who have completed their community service but remain jobless – while the health department says it has no budget to hire them.1 This is almost double the number of doctors who were unemployed at the beginning of 2024.2
