In December 2025 Australia banned children below the age of sixteen from social media accounts. Malaysia1 followed suit, while Portugal, Spain and France announced restrictions on social media, and the UK is considering such a ban. The matter is the subject of much discussion among parents, schools, tech companies, policymakers and children themselves.
