For the first time, South Africa is taking leadership of the G20, a forum comprising 19 countries with the world’s largest economies, plus the European Union and the African Union. This offers a significant opportunity to address not only the interests of Africa, but that of the Global South. The nations of the G20 account for more than 85% of global economic output, approximately 75% of global exports, and around 80% of the world’s population.
