Denied Access, 19 March 2019
The CPLO office together with the Jesuit Social Apostolate screened the documentary ‘Denied Access’ at the Scalabrini Centre in Cape Town. The documentary focuses, through a wide variety of people on the problems of documented and undocumented persons who manage to cross the border from Zimbabwe into SA. For both groups huge questions of support, care and integration loom large. For the undocumented the problems are even bigger as the lack of documentation closes doors to possible means of support. The documentary explores the contentious areas but also looks at the church agencies and other NGOs who provide assistance around Messina. Very importantly the documentary raises the fundamental question for people of faith as to the appropriate, value based response to people in need irrespective of their status.
The filmmaker, Sr Katleho Khang, Fr Rampe Hlobo of the Jesuit Institute and Ms Sindi Moyo of the Scalabrini Centre addressed attendees at the screening.
