The status and future of the Cape Town Refugee Reception Office and South Africa’s Refugee Protection Framework, 5 April 2018
In collaboration with the Scalabrini Institute for Human Mobility in Africa (SIHIMA) and the Scalabrini Centre of Cape Town, we hosted a seminar on the Status and Future of the Cape Town Refugee Reception Office and South Africa’s Refugee Protection Framework. Mr Corey Johnson, advocacy officer at the Scalabrini Centre argued that the Refugee Reception Offices are key to a well-managed refugee and especially asylum seeker process. Mr Johnson’s input, together with the contributions by the seminar participants, provided the vocabulary, history and critical information on the pros and cons of a well-functioning office. The cons pertain to the negative impact it will have on those who use the office or who are deprived of services due to its closure.
