Refugee Digest 56: Refugees, Migrants and Displaced Persons by Peter-John Pearson
In South Africa August is observed as Women’s Month. It is inspired by the march of 20 000 women
on the Union Buildings in 1956, protesting against the extension of the odious pass laws to women,
and indeed against all the other demeaning apartheid laws. It was and remains to this day the story of
women’s resistance to injustice, their resilience and courage in the face of powerful obstacles, and
their commitment to the implementation of fundamental human rights. Refugee Digest 56 Refugees, Migrants and Displaced Persons by Peter-John Pearson
